Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

• What does MSMO mean?
  
  Our actual name is Main Street Mall Online. It's quite a mouthful. Try saying it five times fast! MSMO is our initials: Main Street Mall Online and has become the affectionate short form for refering to us. It is pronounced "Miz-Mo".

• Do I need to be a member to purchase from sellers on this site?
  
  No. Only sellers need to be members. Of course, members can also purchase from other sellers, but you are welcome to purchase from sellers here without being a registered member yourself. Just visit the mall(s) of your choice, go to a store, view the seller's listed items, and complete the transaction directly between yourself and the seller with one of the payment options they offer.

• What benefits does membership get for me?
  
  Membership provides a store (or stores) where you can sell your merchandise. Many of our sellers have chosen to be an active part of the MSMO community, participating in discusions on the chat forum, helping other sellers, and being involved in other activities. Though not a requirement, it's a great way to be part of a friendly, helpful, sharing, bunch!

• What is the fee for membership?
  
  There are two standard levels or packages available allowing you to list an unlimited number of items in one (gold package) or more (platinum package). See the site features page for more details of the prices for these packages and other features and options associated with each package. The owner of Main Street Malls reserves the right to increase prices from time to time.

• Can I have more than one membership or store?
  
  Yes. You can have as many memberships as you wish to purchase. You can open additional stores in as many malls as you like. Some sellers have opened more than one store in the same mall in order to completely separate certain product lines. However, each store setup allows up to 18 categories so you can easily separate items within one store as well.

• Do you have a trial period? If I don't like it here, can I get a refund?
  
  We don't have a trial period and we don't issue refunds. Sorry. If you decide to close your store within the first seven days, we will issue a credit of the full initial fee against your first month should you return again within 90 days. We post clearly stated policies and prices, answer every email question personally, and each seller goes through an approval process before actually opening their store(s). Additionally you can interact with other sellers on our public discussion forum. There is every every opportunity to fully investigate the MSMO site before joining us. Trial periods and refunds are not needed nor should they be expected.

• Do I have to make all my sales on this site?
  
  No, of course not. You are free to conduct YOUR business anywhere you like even for, or following, transactions initiated here. Feel free to complete a transaction off site if you wish. Feel free to initiate additional communication directly between you and YOUR customer. The MSMO site is a powerful venue providing the structure to bring buyer and seller together. All business transactions resulting from that contact are made directly between the buyer and seller in whatever format, and via whatever payment method, they wish to use and agree to. If you do sell on other sites you are allowed to link directly from your MSMO store(s) to those sites, your profile page or even your listngs there. We are here to help you build YOUR business and we recognize and accept that it may be in more than one place. We even provide a page to promote your personal and/or business websites if you have one.

• Are there final sales fees or other hidden fees for the buyer or the seller?
  
  The seller pays a flat monthly subscription fee for access to their store(s) with the ability to have an unlimited number of listings. Main Street Mall Online charges no other fees beyond that; no listing fees, no final sales fees, no commissions, no transaction fees, etc. There may be fees for third-party payment services such as PayPal, if you choose to use them, but those have nothing to do with Main Street Mall Online and are directly between you and the outside service(s) you choose to use. In most cases it is the seller that is responsible for these fees.

• Can I only sell one product line on this site?
  
  Each mall site is designed for a particular product range, various accessories and related items. We call it "merchandise specific". Anything that is directly related to the product focus of the particular mall is suitable for sale in that mall. For example, in the Vintage Clothing & Accessories mall, vintage purses, vintage hats, vintage scarves, vintage gloves, vintage belts and vintage jewelry would all be acceptable items. In the Movies, Music & Games mall, videos, DVDs, game cartridges, viewers, hand held games, musical instruments, sheet music, accessories and replacement parts like picks and strings for guitars, books about musical instruments and teaching aids relating to musical instruments would all be acceptable. If you are unsure if something you wish to sell is suitable for a particular mall, please ask. Some sellers may require stores in more than one mall in order to list their entire product range. The low cost of our platinum packages makes this affordable and the product focus of the malls helps increase sales.

• Do you offer sites similar to this mall for sellers of other items like collectibles, teddy bears, dolls or toys, or even just for general merchandise?
  
  Yes we do. See our mall directory for our currently active malls. Go to the sign up for your own store page to see a list of all currently available malls. If your product line would not fit into one of the existing malls we will gladly consider setting up a new mall for you. Please contact the site owners for details.

• Is there a "profile" or "about me" page available for each seller on this site?
  
  Not at this time. A "seller profile" page, which can have one or more pictures and a place for you to tell a little about yourself and/or your business is under development and will be added soon. You can use the store "long description" which appears on the store page for anything you wish to say about your business, your products, or yourself. Some sellers use their first listing to provide business or other information. We also provide a free landing page which can provide information and link to your MSMO store and other selling sites and/or website. Here is an actual example.

• Can I use HTML in my store description or listings?
  
  Yes you can, in certain ways. We ask that you DO NOT use HTML in your store name, short or long descriptions (except for links using specific coding we will provide if you ask), terms entries and other such text areas. Typically, this gets people into trouble as they don't understand how their HTML interfaces with our site pages. We do not provide tech support for problems caused by any use of HTML in these areas. There are, however, many entry fields, such as the Clic*Pic, Webring and External Cart entry fields where specific HTML and/or JavaScript is allowed. In addition, you can use full HTML listing templates for your listings. Special consideration is required, so please read the site instructions carefully or ask for help. Again, we generally do not provide free tech support for issues with your own HTML code or that provided by others (webrings, template designers, etc.) We will provide tech support on these issues for a fee or you can contact the person or site that provided you with the code.

• Can I link to off-site web pages or advertise items not listed on this site?
  
  Yes, you can, with some very minimal restrictions. You may put as many links as you wish, as follows:

  • to other MSMO stores (your own or those of other sellers - cross-promotion is a great idea!), to other MSMO listings, or to other MSMO or Our Hutch websites, or

  • to your own websites, stores, shops, individual listings, profile pages or other selling or information pages on other websites, venues or selling sites, or to those of other MSMO sellers, or

  • to other websites or web pages that offer help, or provide information or discussion, relating directly to items or related items such as would be allowed for sale here.

  • to traffic exchange sites, web rings, and other such promotional sites that require embedded code and/or a banner or other links back to them.

  You cannot link to other websites, pages, documents or graphics that would be considered offensive, pornographic or illegal. The final decision in these matters will be up to the Main Street Mall Online site owner. Just ask us and we will be glad to provide an evaluation regarding any page or site you wish to link to.

• What new features or changes are coming for Main Street Mall Online?
  
  There is really no way for us to specifically answer that question. Main Street Mall Online has been growing and developing since the first mall, Main Street Vintage opened June 1, 2006. We have a number of features under development at any given time. We listen to our sellers and try to provide the services and features they need in support of their business. We can't always provide every requested feature or service as we do have a specific business plan and philosophy for the site, but nothing is cast in stone and we are willing to embrace new ideas. A friend once said, "Set your goals in concrete and your plans in sand." He was pretty smart. And very successful. We know what our goals are. We've set them firmly in concrete. But our plans change from time to time in order to better move towards them. Perhaps the best example of listening, and responding, to our sellers is the search engine we developed for our Patterns, Sewing & Notions mall. We have a pretty good search engine in all our malls and on our main site home page, but our pattern sellers needed some specific featurers and flexibility we were not offering. We discussed this in depth with our sellers and did a lot of research on the subject. The result is, we believe, one of the very best pattern search functions available anywhere on the 'net. When you join us, if you have ideas, suggestions or requests, we will listen and discuss them openly with you. You will be an important part of the MSMO community.
